Before you start measuring and draw your own floor plans, see if you can find what you need; your floor plans and heaps of other information that might be useful for your renovation and/or new build, from one of the avenues we list below.
You can often find information you need for your building project from:
Realestate.com.au
By far the easiest method is through this website: realestate.com.au. It is Australia’s No.1 property site for real estate, which means that it is very likely that your home was listed here before. Most of the listed homes include photos of the property and you guess it right, floor plans.
Simply select the “address” search category, type in your address and click Search. If there is no luck here, try the other 2 options below.
Your Local Council
Most council has free online service to track Development Application associated with properties within their council areas. This service provides fast, 24/7 convenient access to DA status, information and public documents (including your original floor plans).
For example, for Ku-ringgai council, you can view the following DA related documents (as long as it is lodged after 2008) on the tracker:
- Any associated plans and documents.
- Any amended plans or documents submitted during assessment.
- Notices of determination and approved plans.
GIPA Act – Open Access to Information
There are certain documentation and drawings such as those applied through CDC applications are not available via DA Tracking – you will need to apply for these under a GIPA application. This is also useful for information that is no longer available through DA tracking (older records)
Each council has their own form or online application to access this service. For Ku-rringgai council, you can apply online HERE
Reach out to the original owner
The previous owner of your home may kept some record of the property plans or for the very least, they may point you to the original architect and/or builder who is very likely to have kept some records of their project.
GOOD LUCK. We hope you are able to find your original floor plan. If you are having any trouble, please feel free to contact us and we’ll try our best to assist.
